My Portfolio – Now Online!

As an engineer I have always relied on my resume as the tool to tell others what I do and the experience I have had in the professional world. Now that I am breaking into the world of academia I have new tools at my disposal.

Education professionals have a CV instead of a resume. My engineering resume is a comprehensive document, but I have worked very hard to make it as concise and short as possible.
The academic world is much more flexible. No need for keeping it short, a CV and it’s associated Portfolio required for employment can be as long and volumonous as necessary to capture all of your experience and credentials.

My last class to complete my PostSecondary Certification program at Bethel was a seminar that allowed us to work with other students as well as faculty to construct a CV and Portfolio. The faculty helped greatly, and freely gave constructive criticism to insure each student had the best possible product at the end of the seminar.

The CV was tricky because I needed to marry my engineering experience with my educational experience. After a few iterations, the final product turned our pretty well. You can look at my CV HERE.

The Portfolio on the other hand was quite a bit more work. Traditional Portfolios are exactly that, a large binder that is organized to hold all the information you need to relate your teaching and educational expertise to others. I decided early on that I was going to go “paperless”. I spent quite a bit of time constructing a web based format to convey my information. I even went so far as to register a web domain name for my academic pursuits. (TheTeachingBox.com) What I have created and is now displayed is a flexible tool that is easily modified and corrected as necessary. I went with a format that looks like a portfolio with tabs along the edge with the different topics of interest.
