The country of Nigeria has much to offer in terms of higher education. Many students will attend these colleges, but few remain in the country after obtaining his or her degree. Higher education can provide a wealth of opportunities for any locale and one as rich in natural resources as Nigeria could greatly benefit from knowledge in a variety of fields.

1. Abia State – Founded in 1981, Abia State University Uturu has a lot to offer students. Educational fields such as agriculture, law, medical sciences and more are available for students to study.

2. Bells UofT – Located in Ota, Ogun in Nigeria, the Bells University of Technology was established in 2004 and provides a wide scope of sciences. Engineering, environmental, food, communications, management, and natural sciences covers a variety of subjects for furthering knowledge in technological advancement of science.

3. Bowen University – Opening the doors in 2002, Bowen University is a private school owned by the Nigerian Baptist Convention. This University offers a broad spectrum of education including biomedical, mathematical, and computer sciences.

4. Crawford University – Established in 2005, Crawford University is a privately funded school by the Apostolic Faith Mission. Agricultural, natural, business, and social sciences are available to students in a variety of specific studies.

5. DSU – Although the location was well known for education since the colonial period, the creation of the Delta State in 1991 forced the locale to be changed to Delta State University in Abraka. Providing standards of art, medical, and science faculties, this long standing University has history on its side.

6. University of Lagos - The University of Lagos was established in 1962 for public access. Arts, education, law, and sciences are among those that can be attended by students.

These are only a handful of the many Universities across the country of Nigeria. As of 2002, only 15 Nigerian scientists are in the country per one-million residents. It's not from a lack of conviction on the population's behalf, but more of a denial of services from the politicians and military. It is easier for a graduate to move to a different part of the world to experience opportunities and continue his or her chosen career path than it is to remain in Nigeria.
